Test Scope

Grade 5 Second Semester - Midterm Exam

English Exam

Date: Wednesday, 1^st April, Periods 1 & 2

40% Grammar:

Review Resources - For the grammar section of the test, students should review their Grammar quizzes, review worksheets and Enter the World of Grammar 2 textbook. The areas to be tested are:

1.       Unit 11: Reflexive – Emphatic Pronoun p.75-79

2.       Unit 12 Articles p.80-86

3.       Unit 13 Modals Ⅰ p.87-92

4.       Unit 14 Modals Ⅱ p.93-98

10% Creative Writing:

Students must write a 3-4 paragraph descriptive text. They will be given 2 topics to choose from. The introduction must include a hook and a thesis statement, and the body of the essay must include descriptions relating to the text and examples supporting the author’s point of view. The essay will be graded according to content, organization, grammar and creativity. (Students must not go over the word limit) 

40% Reading (30% Journey’s, 10% unseen)

Students will read a short passage and answer questions based on the text. Students will be graded on comprehension skills, spelling and grammar. Students will also be tested on

10% Vocabulary:

Review Resource: Vocabulary Quizzes / Language Handbook L16 – L21.

Students will be tested on a selection of vocabulary words taught from L16-L21. A word bank will be provided from which students choose a suitable word to complete sentences.

 

 

 

Science and Math Exam

Science

Review Resources – My Pals are Here Science Book 5A

1.       Unit 10 Adaptations of Living Things to the Environment p.99-120

Students will be assessed on their knowledge of how various living things adapt to their environment. Additionally, they will complete sentences using vocabulary from the given word banks.

Math

Review Resources – Prime Mathematics 5B

Chapter 7 Decimals

1.       Lesson 1: Approximation p.1-5

2.       Lesson 2: Multiplication by Tens, Hundreds, or Thousands p.6-11

3.       Lesson 3: Division by Tens, Hundreds or Thousands p.12-18

4.       Lesson 4: Multiplication by 2-digit Whole Numbers p.19-24

5.       Lesson 6: Conversions of Measurements p. 30-33

6.       Lesson 7: Problem Solving p.34-36

The test will assess students' ability to work with decimals and solve problems involving decimals. They will also need to know how to convert between different units of length, capacity, and mass.

Chapter 11 Area of Triangles, Parallelograms, and Rhombuses                                                                 

7.       Lesson 1: Area of Triangles. p.85-94

8.       Lesson 2: Area of Parallelograms and Rhombuses p.95-100

Students should have a clear understanding of triangles, parallelograms, and rhombuses. The assessment will evaluate their ability to calculate the area of these shapes.
